Presentation 1: The ANZACATA Research Report: How it was actioned and why it matters - Ms Deanne Gray In 2022, the ANZACATA report, titled “The proven efficacy of the creative arts therapies” was launched to address critique pertaining to validity of the profession. Since its inception, the report has been distributed over 700 times, discussed on podcasts and journals, and recognized globally through psychological platforms. This presentation will explore the journey of its inception and why it matters that the research continues. Presentation 2: Developing professional standards and core competencies for Masters-level creative arts therapy graduates - Dr Henry Bowen Creative Arts Therapy is largely unregulated in the global south, allowing anyone to claim the title of “Creative Arts Therapist” regardless of their training. To improve the system, ANZACATA commissioned a project to establish specific and measurable professional standards and core competencies for Creative Arts Therapy professionals. An e-Delphi survey with 25 international experts developed four standards and fifteen core competencies, setting a new international benchmark for the field. This presentation will outline this process and the established standards, alongside the next steps where university courses are being assessed for their compliance in producing graduates who meet these updated standards. Presentation 3: The Future for ANZACATA - Dr Kate Dempsey Kate will inform members of the many plans that ANZACATA has moving forward that will position it as the peak body and self-regulating authority for all qualified creative arts therapists in the Asia-Pacific region

Biography

Deanne Gray has a Bachelor of Social Work, Masters in Art Therapy and is a current PhD candidate with the University of South Australia in the Centre for Research in Social and Educational Inclusion (CRESI). Her research is exploring the differences between arts engagement and art therapy in natural disaster affected communities. Deanne’s key areas of interest are in embodied and visual arts methodologies, a/r/tographic inquiry and ethics of care regarding social and cultural experiences from a diversity of perspectives. She is passionate about research in creative art therapies to support knowledge and equity of the profession within multidisciplinary spaces.

Dr Henry Bowen

Developing professional standards and core competencies for Masters-level creative arts therapy graduates

Biography

Dr. Henry Bowen is the Research and Training Lead at Military and Emergency Services Health Australia, a charity of the Hospital Research Foundation Group. They have a background in understanding the value of creative health interventions for military and first responders with PTSD and are passionate about building the awareness and quality of care provided by creative health practitioners.

Kate Dempsey, PhD is the CEO of ANZACATA and has qualifications and experience in governance, organisational change, strategic planning and leadership. She has been CEO for 5 years and she has seen exponential growth in membership in ANZACATA over that period.
