Rose Cotronei is the Principal Scientist at of the Microbiology Department at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Victoria, Australia, where she manages all areas within the department including bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, infectious serology and molecular microbiology. She has spent over 30 years in the diagnostic microbiology field at various institutions such as The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred Hospital. Her interests include antibiotics susceptibility testing and resistance mechanisms, parasitology and mycology. Her extensive experience in change management processes and quality systems has enabled her to lead the microbiology team at the RMH into the future embracing innovation.
Dr. Steven Badman is the Cepheid Director of Medical and Scientific Affairs for Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and the Western Pacific region. He is a clinically trained public health researcher who has spent the last 11 years specialising in point of care (PoC) testing for viral and sexually transmissible infections (STIs) in many international settings, including Vanuatu, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and Myanmar. Significant work periods have also been spent in remote Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. He has a diverse and specialised infectious diseases skill set, including PoC implementation in remote and low-middle income locations. His interests include HPV and cervical cancer elimination in low-resource settings, STI’s and their impact on pregnant women, HIV, HCV, HBV, and SARS-CoV-2. Broader interests include antimicrobial resistance, hospital-acquired infections, and bladder cancer detection using PCR-based host response markers.
