Dr Patrick Harris

Dr Patrick Harris is a clinical microbiologist and NHMRC Early Career Fellow at The University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research (UQCCR). His research has a focus on antibiotic resistant bacteria and the use of randomised clinical trials to define optimal treatment for these problematic infections as well as the application of microbial genomics to clinical practice.

Dr Adam Irwin

Dr Adam Irwin is a NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and conjoint Senior Lecturer in paediatric infectious disease at The University of Queensland and Queensland Children’s Hospital. His research focuses on early recognition of invasive infections and sepsis, and optimal use of antimicrobials including the most appropriate treatment of healthcare-associated and antimicrobial resistant infections in children. He is the medical co-chair of the Queensland Paediatric Sepsis Program which was awarded Queensland Health Excellence awards in 2022, and a Global Sepsis Alliance award in 2020.

Dr Carla Lee Lau 

Dr. Carla Lee Lau is the medical director for bioMérieux Australia and New Zealand. While at bioMérieux, Carla has held various positions including Asia Pacific regional responsibility overseeing Respiratory Solutions product portfolio which includes SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics and served as a Medical Education Liaison in the United States. As a member of the clinical team she enjoys working closely with clinicians, hospital infection control, and antimicrobial stewardship committees to better understand diagnostic utility and its role in early identification of infectious disease trends in our community and impact on optimizing antimicrobial use. She is passionate about infectious diseases and started her career in New York City working for the Department of Health and at NYU Langone Medical Center Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
