Biography
Susan Huang, MD MPH is Chancellor’s Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine, and Medical Director of Epidemiology and Infection Prevention at UCI Health. For the past 20 years, Dr. Huang has been studying healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) with a focus on multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). Her clinical epidemiologic research seeks to identify the burden and risk factors for acquisition and disease, and preventative strategies for containment. Dr. Huang has led several large randomized clinical trials involving decolonization to prevent MRSA disease and other HAIs. She also studies regional prevention of MDROs in hospitals and nursing homes through epidemiologic studies as well as simulation models. Dr. Huang has over 200 publications and has received a Top 10 U.S. Clinical Research Achievement Award from the Clinical Research Forum. Dr. Huang is a voting member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Combatting Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB) and has served as a past member of the U.S. Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC), the U.S. CDC Antibiotic Resistance Working Group, and the IDSA Antibiotic Resistance Committee.
