You will find an abundance of restaurants, pubs, bars, night markets, cafes, art galleries, theatre, and exhibitions. There is plenty to see and do in Perth. Hop on an open-top bus tour to Kings Park for spectacular views over the city; jump off and walk amongst the treetops or stop for a picnic. Watch gold pouring at The Perth Mint or marvel at one of the world’s largest musical instruments at The Bell Tower. Take a wine cruise on the beautiful Swan River, jump on the Transperth ferry to visit over 1500 animals at the Perth Zoo.
Perth may well be the most isolated city in the world, but it’s also home to some of the world’s best beaches including: Scarborough Beach, City Beach, Port Beach, Cottesloe Beach and Trigg Beach.
Take in one of the most photogenic cityscapes from the Swan River and its foreshore. Enjoy a delightful cruise across the expansive Swan River and witness the sights that lay before you as you pass along its tranquil waters. Indulge in a refreshing beverage as you watch the changing colour of the sky and admire the sunset and the luminescent shine of the Perth city skyline.
After exploring Perth city, take a day or extended trip to visit the historic Port town of Fremantle. The vibrant city blends the old with the new, creating an enriching cultural experience. Maritime, convict and colonial history can be explored in one of the best examples of a 19th-century port streetscape, while buzzing markets, lively bars and casual street cafes give you a taste of 21st-century life with the locals.
A must-see on everyone’s list are the idyllic turquoise bays of Rottnest Island. The locals who affectionately refer to the island as “Rotto” is just 19kms off the coast with ferries regularly departing from Fremantle and Perth. This beautiful island offers 45kms of walking trails, fascinating cultural heritage and amazing native wildlife, including a colony of New Zealand fur seals and around 10,000 adorable quokkas – only found in Western Australia. Swim, snorkel, hike, bike or just laze on the sand – this pocket-sized paradise really does have something for everyone.
The World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef is one of the longest fringing coral reefs in the world. It is 300 kms of unspoiled underwater paradise. Unlike most coral reefs that are located well offshore, the Ningaloo Reef runs within very close proximity to the shoreline so you will see coral gardens brimming with brightly coloured tropical fish mere footsteps from the beach.
If you are planning on extending your stay in Perth (either before or after the conference), and you are a lover of wine and breath-taking scenery, then the Margaret River Region is a must!
