SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

The CBAA is pleased to announce and congratulate the recipients of the 2021 CBAA Conference Scholarships, which are valued at almost $1,200.

The scholarships provide assistance for under-resourced stations, volunteers, and staff who might not otherwise get the opportunity to attend the CBAA Conference, the premier event in the community broadcasting sector, from Thursday 27 - Saturday 29 October 2022 in Cairns.

Jon Bisset, CBAA’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are delighted to be able to run the conference scholarship program again in 2021. It’s been a trying year so far and we want to thank everyone who applied.  It’s a real pleasure to give the successful applicants the opportunity to learn from sector and industry leaders, meet their fellow passionate community broadcasters and share their own knowledge and stories.

"This past year has been a real challenge with COVID and community radio has shown that it can help where other stations cannot. We provide services that are not available anywhere else, and we service people who need our programs. The CBAA Conference is an excellent place to gain fresh insights for servicing our sector. It is an invaluable event because it brings together diverse broadcasters, volunteers, technicians, and stakeholders to develop and strengthen their skills, knowledge base and sector network."

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Applicants were assessed on their ability to demonstrate leadership and a clear track record of successful station outcomes, along with the potential impact of Conference attendance on their station. Preference was given applicants who were in leadership roles at a member station and met at least one of the following criteria:

  • Under the age of 26
  • Of an underrepresented gender
  • From a station in a regional, rural or remote location
  • Representing a station that was not at the 2019 face-to-face CBAA Conference

The ten winners will join more than 200 other community station representatives from around the country for two days of learning, networking, sharing knowledge and participating in discussions which are designed to inspire station management to think of new ways to connect with their communities. Attendees will learn the latest in the world of community broadcasting. Sessions will explore topics including station governance, content, technology and community engagement.

Since the last CBAA Conference, the sector has worked tirelessly to connect communities in times of need—through emergencies, the provision of local information and news, broadcasting health information in community languages, and connecting and comforting listeners through music and talks content.
